Happy Halloween from the Jackal headed god Anubis :)

Happy late Halloween everyone! We had a lot of fun celebrating here. A went as the Jackal Headed God Anubis of course (LOL), The Egyptian God of embalming. That was fun listening to her explain to everyone who asked. Her costume turned out great. She was so happy, and I was very impressed with the jackal head I made and how well her canopic jar we made turned out. We even had the lid come off so she could store candy in it.We trick-or-treated at DH's office and then headed to the PCR for their Halloween carnival. The whole town was there and the kids had lots of fun. A was quiet, as she typically is in large groups and loud areas, but she did enjoy herself.
There was a costume contest and she one second place in her age group.
The girl that one was dressed like the bride of Frankenstein.
She played games and decorated cookies.
After, we went trick-or-treating to a few people we knew. A wanted to do the whole "real trick-or-treating" thing, but we decided to only let her head to our friends' houses. She still had a lot of fun.
The night before, we carved our jack-o-lantern after A drew the face on it.

Happy Halloween everyone!

Happy Weekend!

The last 2 days have been beautiful, or at least had some sun in between the snow/sleet/rain showers. I had promised A earlier in the week that we would drive up the pass and see the snow, but that was the day of the migraine from hell so we didn't get to. Unfortunately a good deal of the snow had melted, but Friday we headed up anyway to see what we could find. She is so ready for winter.

Saturday we headed out to the cove to play. It was cold and windy, but we stayed for about an hour. I love days like this with my family.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Coordinate pairs

We have been working on coordinate pairs in math this past week and have had a lot of fun. I found both of these ideas here. I love this website. They have so many wonderful ideas.

This game was lots of fun and we got to eat the candy afterwards. We took turn rolling the dice (one regular, and one I wrote A-F on) and reading the coordinate pair. Then we took off what ever candy was in that coordinate. Candy corn was worth 1 point each, while the 6 pumpkins on the board were worth 5 points each. We played 2 different ways... until one row or column was clear, and the second time for a set number of minutes, then we added up our scores. Lots of fun.

I gave A a blank grid and a set of instructions and she followed them to create a picture. Each coordinate pair was listed with a code of how to color it.

The finished creation, a smiling Jack-o-lantern :)
Happy graphing :)

Termination snow and migraines

We woke up Tuesday morning to Snow! Termination snow to be exact. Snow on the mountains, and a dusting on the ground. The end of nice weather, the start of winter here in the Aleutians. A was so excited.I also woke up to a horrible migraine. I took my medicine in hopes that it would disappear and I could drive A up into the pass after swim lessons to play in the snow.

She read her book while I rested, trying to let the medicine do it's job.
Unfortunately, even taking another pill, and then 2 over the counter meds, did nothing to even take the edge off. So A had to make do with playing with the little bit left outside our house.

I waited for DH to be pretty much finished for the day and then headed to the clinic for a shot to knock my migraine out. It did, but it knocked me out for the count as well. I slept basically from 5pm-9:30am and could have slept all day today. I am feeling better thankfully, and tomorrow A has her last swim lesson of the semester. She has enjoyed it so much.

I have a lot of pics of what we have been doing lately to post, but right now I am off to bed. Night all.

Art class went so well!

We had our first homeschool art class today. I had 11 kids in the class today. It was quiet an age range, but it was lots of fun. We worked on creating sunset silhouettes while exploring negative space. This concept was a little hard for my elementary age kids to grasp, but they all did a great job. It just took a little one on one with each, but they did all understand negative space, and did a great job cutting out their negative space of their pictures.

Here they all are showing their works! I am so proud of them. I can't wait for next week!

My first art class is tomorrow!

Tomorrow I am teaching my first homeschool art class. I am so nervous, but also very very excited! I have quite a few families and kids coming, although several are out of town this week I believe.

I have kids ranging from A to high school kids. So I have had to really work out how to take projects and diversify them enough for all the age ranges.

Tomorrow's projects is "Sunset Silhouettes". Right now I need to go get everything ready :) Wish me luck!

Fall pictures

We had an ABSOLUTELY Beautiful day this week. Just perfect fall day, which is so unusual here! We headed out to play and spent close to 3 hours out behind the house. A actually let me snap some great fall pics of here. I thought I'd share.

This is why I love it here!

Late season blueberries. Beautiful aren't they? And oh oh so tasty!
A made a nest, the blueberries are the eggs.

Isn't it so beautiful here?
